SPEND A SEMESTER OR ACADEMIC YEAR IN IRELAND: A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE FULL OF OPPORTUNITIES

Living in England for an academic year or semester can be an extraordinary experience, an opportunity to immerse yourself in a culture rich in history, tradition and innovation. England, with its vibrant cities and breathtaking landscapes, offers something unique for every type of traveler or student. Imagine walking the cobbled streets of Oxford or Cambridge, surrounded by ancient colleges where some of history's brightest minds studied. Or imagine experiencing the dynamism of London, a metropolis pulsating with energy, where cultures from all over the world mix. From traditional pubs in small villages, where you immediately feel at home, to trendy clubs in Manchester or Bristol, England is a mix of ancient and modern that never ceases to fascinate.
It's not just city life: England offers surprising access to nature. The landscapes of Cornwall, with its golden beaches and cliffs overlooking the sea, or the intense green of national parks such as the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales are perfect for those who love exploring outdoors. And then there are the famous white cliffs of Dover, an iconic panorama that takes your breath away.

Structure of the English high school

1) Secondary School (11-16 years):

- After primary school, English students enter secondary school, which lasts 5 years
- At the end of Year 11, they take the GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education) exams

2) Post-16 education (16-18 years old)

After GCSE, students choose between the Sixth Form. In the Sixth Form you can choose between 2 programs of study: A-Level and International Baccalaureate (IB).

A Level: in this course of study, children select 3 or 4 subjects in total which they will follow intensively for the entire period of their stay in the chosen school.

IB: in this course of study, there are 6 subjects to choose from, plus 3 additional compulsory components: Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay, CAS (Creativity, Action, Service). The IB course lasts 2 years.

A PERSONALIZED PATH TO GROW IN SAFETY

The English school year is divided into three terms (terms):

• Autumn semester: September – December (before Christmas)
• Spring semester: January – end of March
• Summer semester: mid-April – end of May/June

The structured school calendar offers the flexibility to participate for one term, two terms or the entire academic year.

There are no oral questions and students are mainly assessed with final exams and practical work.

DUAL DIPLOMA

Student life in England emphasizes participation in extracurricular clubs (sports, drama)
Schools encourage the development of soft skills, such as critical thinking and collaboration.

UNIVERSITY ORIENTATION

The English system is known for its inclusive approach:

Support for students with special needs (SEN): Personalized educational plans and specialized staff.
Cultural integration: Specific programs for students of different linguistic backgrounds
Counseling and wellbeing: Many schools offer psychological counseling and emotional support.

THE MEASURE OF INTELLIGENCE IS THE ABILITY TO CHANGE

In Italy, students choose a specific major, such as scientific, classical, artistic or technical, already at the age of 14, thus limiting the flexibility of the educational path. The Italian curriculum is rigid, characterized by numerous compulsory subjects and few possibilities for independent choice. Assessments are continuous, with grades distributed throughout the year, and culminate in the State Exam, whereas in England the emphasis is placed more on final exams. Furthermore, Italian student life appears more academic and less oriented towards extracurricular activities than English student life.
