CANADA
SPEND A SEMESTER OR ACADEMIC YEAR IN IRELAND: A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE FULL OF OPPORTUNITIES
Canada is a country with a very high quality of life, breathtaking landscapes and a warm welcome towards those who come from abroad. Country known for its excellent quality of life offers efficient public transport, easy access to national parks, lakes and mountains.
In addition to being considered one of the safest countries in the world, another important characteristic of Canada is its multiculturalism: it is in fact one of the countries that has multiple cultures living together, especially in large cities such as Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal. This means not only that it is possible to find communities and food from all over the world but also an important open-mindedness and deep respect for diversity.
English is the main language in much of the country, but French is predominant in Quebec.
Canadian high school structure
In Canada, high school is known as high school and generally covers the school years from ninth to twelfth grade (Grade 9–12). In some provinces such as Quebec, however, high school ends at Grade 11 and students continue with CEGEP (a pre-university or technical program). Students start high school around the age of 14 and finish it at 17 or 18, depending on the path chosen.
A PERSONALIZED PATH TO GROW IN SAFETY
The number of subjects to be followed during the academic year varies depending on whether the high school follows a six-month or annual (linear) program: in the first case the student will have to choose 4 subjects per semester. In the second, you will have to choose 8 subjects that you will carry out for the entire academic year.
The high school curriculum in Canada is diverse and designed to provide a well-rounded education. Students take compulsory courses in core subjects such as:
• Mathematics
• Sciences (biology, chemistry, physics)
• English or French language and literature, depending on the linguistic region
• History and geography
• Physical education
In addition to these, there are elective courses that allow students to customize their studies based on interests and future goals, such as art, music, computer science, economics, and foreign languages.

The academic year begins in September and ends in June, divided into two semesters or a linear system (with all subjects throughout the year).

SUMMER PROGRAMS
Students are assessed through a combination of assignments, projects, exams and class participation. At the end of high school, students obtain a High School Diploma, which is essential for entering college or university.
DUAL DIPLOMA
Canadian high school life is not limited to the academic aspect. The schools offer numerous extracurricular activities such as sports (hockey, football, basketball), debate clubs, theatre, volunteering and leadership programmes. These activities help students develop social skills and cultivate personal interests.
UNIVERSITY ORIENTATION
Canada is known for its inclusiveness and cultural diversity. The schools welcome students from different cultures and languages, and offer support programs for international students or those with special educational needs. Furthermore, many institutions provide counseling to guide students towards their future choices, both academic and professional.
